Survey to Collect Feedback about the Transition (November 2025)
One of the actions stemming from our first Listowel Transition Committee (LTC) External committee meeting (details below) was the desire to gather feedback from students, parents and the community regarding the upcoming school grade structure changes in the town of Listowel. To that end, beginning mid November, surveys are being distributed to students and parents/caregivers of the Grade 6 and 7 students at both Listowel Eastdale PS and North Perth Westfield ES. Following that, surveys will come to other students and parents/caregivers (including Listowel District SS) as well as invitations to the broader community to share their questions, concerns and wonderings.
Transition Process
In June 2025, after an extensive boundary review process (full details below), the AMDSB Board of Trustees decided that beginning in September 2026, grade 7 and 8 students from the Listowel Eastdale Public School and North Perth Westfield Elementary School catchment areas would relocate to Listowel District Secondary School.
As part of this transition process, a committee has been formed to ensure that students and families are well prepared for this change. AMDSB staff will lead the committee and representatives from each school, including school council chairs (or designate), staff and students, will participate so that all perspectives are considered. Meetings will be open to the public (details and minutes will be posted on this page; see below).

The North Perth Boundary Review will look at the current attendance boundaries for the Board’s schools in Listowel and the surrounding area to determine how the boundaries might be adjusted to alleviate the enrolment pressures at Listowel schools. A school or attendance boundary is the area surrounding a school that determines which students will attend each school based on where the student lives. It is important that school boards try to balance and equalize enrolments between schools, especially if there are some schools that have too many students relative to the size of the school, while other schools have excess space. In North Perth, the current elementary accommodation plan is not sustainable and a boundary review may help alleviate some of the current challenges. As a result, the Board of Trustees have approved staff to conduct a boundary review. AMDSB has a procedure (Administrative Procedure 305) that helps guide and direct this review.
The review is intended to kick off in December of 2024 and will wrap up in the Spring of 2025. Part of this process includes consulting with the school communities to understand the preferences of the community. To do this, a committee called the North Perth Boundary Review Committee (NPBRC) will be formed with representation from all communities involved in the review.
An outside consulting firm has been retained to examine various options and scenarios, as well as how any proposed changes to the boundaries would impact things like enrolment and utilization, student distance from schools, bussing and/or grade structures. The consulting firm will work with the NPBRC to develop scenarios and will seek feedback from the community.
In the end, the school board trustees will consider a report with options, recommendations, and community feedback to decide what is best for the school board, while understanding the needs and opinions of the school communities.
