About the Avon Maitland District School Board
AMDSB is a full English-speaking school board with 31 elementary schools and 8 secondary schools throughout Perth and Huron Counties.
Most of our schools are small, tight-knit communities that are very connected to our local villages, towns, hamlets and rural areas. Our size is our advantage!
Our connections to local business and industry provide amazing learning opportunities for our secondary students, to help them feel prepared for their next step in life. We offer all of the programs that are consistent across the province but with a unique, personalized approach, in order to meet the needs of our students.
A Day in the Life at AMDSB
We provide culturally-relevant programming so that all of our students feel welcome and represented in the programs that we offer. Our inclusive learning environments integrate students with unique needs into classrooms with their peers. We connect newcomer families to services to help ease their transition, and ensure that any required equipment or technology is readily available for those that require it.
Our Mental Health and Well-being team prioritizes a system-wide approach through the provision of the right professional development for the promotion of mentally healthy classrooms. This training includes lessons about demonstrating empathy, mental wellness promotion, mental illness prevention and the bolstering of crisis management and response skills. The team’s individual approaches include one-on-one counseling or connections to local providers for those students who may need extra support.
