June 24, 2022
Dear AMDSB staff and families,
As the 2021/2022 school year comes to a close, I want to reflect on the year and send wishes for a safe, restful and joy-filled summer.
Thank you to our parents and guardians for your ongoing support throughout another year clouded by the COVID-19 pandemic. At the beginning of the school year, we had several health and safety protocols in place and your diligence to follow those has been greatly appreciated. Now that case numbers are no longer as concerning and the province has shifted to mitigation strategies, we have seen the end to a number of those protocols. The transition away from the tight restrictions brought with it a range of reactions and emotions, but I am hopeful that we will continue to see improvements in public health indicators and that next school year will bring an even more familiar school experience.
Throughout this year we continued much of our work, and, despite COVID restrictions and continuous change, we accomplished a great deal of progress. We moved forward on many of the goals set out in our Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity Plan, conducted a thorough review of Alternative Education programs and offered a number of initiatives in Pathways programs. We also increased support for Mental Health and Well-being by hiring a number of regulated health professionals to provide direct support to students in schools. Throughout the summer we are offering summer school and tutoring programs to help students who may need extra support.
I want to publicly acknowledge our amazing staff, who have been navigating the pandemic with professionalism and dedication to keep our students learning and our system moving forward. We have learned a lot along the way and our system is better because of this. As we continue to develop our programs and supports, we empower our staff to build on their strengths so that they can in turn support students to achieve success and inspiration in their educational journey.
We are looking ahead to the future and at how we can best meet the needs of our students moving forward. We are committed to the overarching work that happens at the system or board level, and the regular operations that directly impact our students every day.
I wish you a restful summer filled with joy, excitement and wonder, and I look forward to welcoming staff and students back to our buildings in September. For those that are moving on and graduating, I wish you all the best in your future endeavours! Happy summer everyone!
