Text: #IAMwellThe AMDSB Mental Health and Well-Being (MHWB) Team consists of a Mental Health Lead, Mental Health Coordinator, and Mental Health Counsellors, who provide school-wide mental health promotion, prevention, intervention, and counselling services to students at both an elementary and secondary level.

Using a Tiered Model of Support, we can promote mental health and well-being for ALL students; help to identify SOME students with, or at risk of developing, mental health problems; and access clinical support for the FEW students who require more intensive intervention.

AMDSB Mental Health and Well-Being (MHWB) Vision

By reducing stigma, building capacity, and creating awareness, the MHWB Team will provide equitable access to mental health support across the system. Students will feel safe, supported, and connected to a school environment that fosters their well-being.

AMDSB Mental Health and Well-Being (MHWB) Mission

To provide equitable and inclusive access to services that foster the well-being of our students by committing to understand their mental health needs; building connections and capacity to support these needs in the school environment; and providing skills to increase their overall health and well-being.

What is Mental Health?

Arrows going in 4 directions (North, South, East, West) with descriptions on the continuum of mental healthWe all have mental health, just as we all have physical health. Mental health is one component of overall health.

The World Health Organization defines Mental Health as "a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is fruitfully able to make a contribution to his or her community."
