OYAP Next Steps after High School

For students who are continuing with their employer/sponsor

  1. Create a Skilled Trades Ontario (STO) Account using these instructions.
  2. Email OYAP Recruiter to confirm that you are continuing with your current employer/sponsor. OYAP Recruiter will update your status in APPR-EOIS once your OSSD completion has been confirmed.
  3. Using the same email you used to register as an apprentice, email STO at  [email protected] with the following details:
    1. First and Last Name
    2. Trade Code 
    3. Client ID 
    4. Schooling Preferences (include your first and second preference for school along with your preferred delivery method - block release, day release, evenings/weekends)

For students who are changing employers/sponsors and are OVER 18

  1. Create a Skilled Trades Ontario (STO) Account using these instructions.
  2. Email OYAP Recruiter to confirm that you are changing your employer/sponsor. OYAP Recruiter will update your status in APPR-EOIS once your OSSD completion has been confirmed. 
  3. Go to your STO portal and submit a “Change My Sponsor” application.
  4. Notify STO by emailing them at [email protected]. In this email include the following: 
    1. First and Last Name
    2. That you electronically completed the CMS application in your STO portal
    3. Client ID
    4. Schooling Preferences (include your first and second preference for school along with your preferred delivery method - block release, day release, evenings/weekends)
    5. Attach the “Application to Terminate Form” in order to terminate your apprenticeship with your previous employer

For students who are changing employers/sponsors and are UNDER 18

  1. Email OYAP Recruiter to confirm that you are changing your employer/sponsor. OYAP Recruiter will update your status in APPR-EOIS once your OSSD completion has been confirmed. 
  2. Submit 2 applications to [email protected]:
    1. "Application for Apprenticeship Training"
    2. "Application to Terminate" in order to terminate your Training Agreement with your previous employer
  3. Include the following in your email to STO:
    1. First and Last Name
    2. Trade Code
    3. Client ID
  4. STO will then manually register the graduate with their new sponsor. 

For students who are no longer with their employer/sponsor

  1. You must submit an “Application to Terminate Form” to [email protected]
    *Note - Your co-op employer may have already submitted this on your behalf.
  2. Once they find a new employer/sponsor, you will need to complete the Change my Sponsor (CMS) application as listed in the steps above
    *If you are struggling to find a new employer/sponsor, consider checking Merit Ontario’s website to see if they support your trade.
