Green Energy Act
Green Energy Act Reporting
The Green Energy Act, Ontario Regulation 397/11, Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plans, requires all Broader Public Sector organizations, including schools boards, to report on annual energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in designated facilities by July 1st each year. As well, Ontario Regulation 25/23: Broader Public Sector: Energy Reporting and Conservation and Demand Management Plans, requires that boards have in place a 5-year Energy Conservation and Management Plan.
Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan
The Board has developed an Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan for 2023-2028, using Ministry of Education developed templates.
Annual Reporting
Annual reporting, which is uploaded to the Ministry of Energy, must also be made public and easily available on the Board website. The annual energy report can be found here.
This report calculates energy use per square foot and it is reported in equivalent kilowatt-hours per square foot (ekWh/ft2) which is a standard measure when comparing total energy intensity of a building including both heating source energy and all electrical consumption. GreenHouse Gas (GHG) emissions are also reported.
The data used to populate this report is dependent on Local Distribution Companies (LDCs) reporting meter data accurately and having all adjustments to ‘actual’ made within the reporting period. Propane is another heating fuel used at 5 sites with one site being converted to natural gas during the reporting period. Propane is delivered in bulk and is not metered over a specific billing period in the same fashion as electrical and natural gas utilities. As such, the propane volume used to calculate GHG’s and energy intensities is based on bulk deliveries billed in the fiscal period.
