AMDSB Looking for Partners to Provide Before and After School Programs in Huron County
Many AMDSB schools provide space for licensed childcare providers to offer before and after school services to families. However, there is a shortage of childcare providers to meet these needs in some schools, as indicated in an annual survey completed by parents and caregivers.
Schools such as Brookside PS in Ashfield Township, Hullett Central PS in Londesborough, Huron Centennial PS near Brucefield, and North Woods ES near Brussels are looking for partners to step up and provide childcare. AMDSB is hoping to find additional community organizations or individuals interested in becoming licensed through Huron County to offer programming at these schools.
As Cheri Carter, Superintendent of Corporate Services, points out, "Each year, as required by the Ministry of Education, we survey families to assess their need for childcare, and the results consistently show that there are not enough spots for everyone who needs them. Many programs have waitlists, and families are forced to seek other options. We are prioritizing support for schools with the greatest need and hope that members of the community will come forward."
