We believe all students have the right to attend school without fear of racism, discrimination or bullying.

  • Bullying 
  • Racism and hate 
  • Suspicion or signs of sex trafficking.

Rationale

In the Avon Maitland District School Board, we believe that our schools provide a culture of transparency, safety, and support. It is a priority that we empower the members of our community to address incidents of bullying, racism, hate, and sex trafficking. As a system, we are required to provide an anonymous reporting option. This tool will also help identify trends to better support AMDSB students. 


Why an electronic anonymous reporting tool?

A barrier-free, electronic, anonymous reporting tool allows all AMDSB community members to identify and report incidents of bullying, racism, hate, and suspected sex trafficking. There are situations when a student (or parent/ guardian) prefers an anonymous format. 
 
Students receive annual training to support safe and welcoming schools. Students are able to report any incident to their principal, vice-principal, or caring adult. Students should always tell their parents/guardians or caregivers. We encourage parents/guardians/caregivers to contact the school with any information they receive.


Is it cyber secure?

The anonymous reporting tool complies with Ministry of Education reporting requirements. The technology ensures compliance with MFIPPA, PHIPPA, and Data Collection Standards as outlined in the following Administrative Procedures (APs): AP 140: Technology - Responsible Use and Security, AP 195: Freedom of Information (FOI) and Protection of Privacy and AP 196: Records Management.


How does the anonymous reporting tool work?

  1. A report is submitted using the form available on the school (or CEL) website.
  2. The school’s principal/vice-principal receives an email notification.
  3. The principal/vice-principal conducts an investigation based on information received. If the investigation confirms incidents of bullying, racism, hate, and/or sex trafficking, the school’s principal/vice-principal adheres to the process outlined in The Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity (EDI) Action Plan, AP 350: Bullying Prevention and Intervention,  AP 360: Anti-Sex Trafficking, AP 378: Reporting and Responding to Racist and Hate-Based/Biased Incidents Impacting or Involving Students of the AMDSB.

  • This site-specific form is an additional tool for reporting incidents on the school (or CEL) website.
 

Opportunities

  • This tool contributes to the efforts in identifying trends across the Board that can be systematically addressed through educational opportunities.
  • Proactive intervention coupled with coaching and support can help all students develop the skills and understanding needed to build and maintain positive relationships and promote a positive school climate and inclusive culture.
