Equity Steering Committee

In the fall of 2020, the Equity Steering Committee (ESC) was formed with a variety of members from across the board, representative of our growing diversity. Participation on the ESC was voluntary, but prospective members were required to submit a personal statement outlining their lived experiences of marginalization, oppression, and/or activism. The ESC represents educators, support staff, human resources and corporate services personnel, labour partners, and school and system leaders, all held together by a shared passion for and commitment to equity and social justice.

ESC Work and Learning

The Equity Steering Committee convened seven meetings from September 2020 until June 2021, entirely in virtual settings. Initial meetings focused on developing a shared set of norms and belief statements that guided the work of the committee.

The committee engaged in personal learning and professional development on equity-related issues. Members were supported in their learning journeys with a variety of resources including access to conferences, guest speakers, books, podcasts, and films.
